Over the years I have helped numerous patients in ways that I didn't even realize.

This is the way it usually happens: A patient will come in with back pain, or chronic headaches, etc. I will evaluate the patient and set up a care plan.  When I start treating it is common for a patient to tell me that everybody in my house got sick except for me, and I'm usually the first to get it, or I'm breathing better, does this (chiropractic) help asthma?, etc.

Chiropractic changed my life!

I live in Germany.  My father was a medical doctor.  I was in my second year of medical school when I was visiting my friend Dr. George Brewster.  I wasn't feeling well and he gave me my first adjustment.  That adjustment improved my health more than any medicine I ever took.  I decided to quit medical school and became a chiropractor instead.  This is my 60 foot ocean going sailboat that I built to promote chiropractic.

Severe Chronic Neck Pain

This patient was a woman who was 30 years old when she came to my office.  She had severe neck pain for over 2 years.  She had been to 3 orthopedic doctors who found nothing wrong.  They referred her to a psychiatrist because they thought that her pain was of a psychological origin.  After several visits to the psychiatrist, she sought out a second opinion from me, a chiropractor.

This patient had an x-ray taken by her orthopedist (far left).  The orthopedist said the x-ray was normal.  Orthopedists look for fractures, disc problems, etc. and from that perspective it is normal.

As a chiropractor I also look for fractures and tumors, which are rarely the cause, but what I have found to be the problem is the alignment of the spine.  The curve in the neck is totally reversed.  This puts stress on the nerves and can cause neck pain as well as other health issues.  I adjusted this patient and she let out a sigh of relief.  She told me that she had been looking for this for 2 years.  This patient remained under care because she discovered that spinal adjustments had a positive impact on her overall health.  The x-ray to the right is the same patient and was taken a couple of years later.

Phantom Pain and Saving a Life!

Years ago I had the pleasure of taking care of a woman who came in for the treatment of back pain.  She had suffered with chronic pain for years, and it had gotten to the point where she wanted to see if chiropractic could give her some relief.  I successfully helped her with her back pain, but she had a secondary issue which was a much bigger problem.

This patient had been in a serious car accident several years prior to coming to my office.  The patient's leg was crushed during this accident and was amputated.  The woman continued to suffer from severe pain in her missing leg.  She told me that the pain was so severe that she would just cry continually.  She told me that several times she took 2 - 3 times the prescribed dose of her pain medication.  Her husband told her that she might kill herself and she said she didn't care, because then she wouldn't have to deal with the pain.

I explained that even though her leg was missing, the portion of the brain that controlled her missing leg was still present.  I explained that if the nerve that went to the missing leg was irritated, her brain would feel pain in the leg that was missing because the nerve roots are still present.  She told me that of all the doctors she had been to (and there were many) I was one of two doctors who could explain why she suffered with this condition, the other doctor was a neurologist.

During the examination I found subluxations in her lower back that irritated the nerves going into her leg stump and adjusted her.  The phantom pains disappeared and suddenly this woman who had lived with severe pain and was suicidal was smiling and writing poetry.

Chiropractic changed her life and it was a joy to help her.

Chronic Back Pain

Drew had sever back problems that developed when he was in high school.  He had been to numerous medical doctors who told him that there was only one solution... back surgery.  Drew told me that he knew of several people who had back surgery, but he never met a person who had a good outcome.  Drew decided to live with the pain.

Drew is friends with another patient of mine.  He encouraged Drew to come in for an evaluation.  I found the spinal problems that were causing his problem and I began a treatment plan.  Drew's response exceeded his expectations, he is pain free and is now more physically active in his 60's than he was in his 30's.

Drew has been under care for 14 years and has discovered that chiropractic has helped him to be more physically active and enjoy better overall health.

A few years ago Drew built a deck on the back of his house and installed a fence.  He told me that prior to chiropractic care his back was too fragile to attempt to do projects like these.  Drew also commented that he is able to outperform his peers at work.  Many of the guy's that he works with are slowing down from chronic pain, but Drew has told me that even though he is getting older, he still feels healthy and strong.
